OUR GOVERNING BOARD

Guiding the WHEA vision

The West Hawaiʻi Explorations Academy Governing Board is the independent governing body of our charter school. The Governing Board members are responsible for overseeing the organization, management, financial, and academic viability of the school, as well as compliance with applicable federal and state laws. The Governing Board operates independently of HIDOE and BOE, serving as the representative body responsible for governance and operations at WHEA.

The WHEA Governing Board will meet in-person on campus on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 2:45pm, unless noted*. Board meetings are held at a minimum of six times per year as scheduled and are open to the public.​

Governing board awards

THE ANDI PAWASARAT-LOSALIO COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD

Students considered for this award are community minded, civic spirited, willing volunteers in their school community, and/or the community at large. The award is named for Andi Pawasarat-Losalio who has selflessly served on and lead the WHEA Governing Board through challenging times.

THE HEATHER NAKAKURA LEADERSHIP AWARD

Students considered for this award are recognized for their demonstrated ability to combine academic excellence and exemplary leadership who best exemplifies the values of public service and leadership through their contributions to our school and community. The award is named for Heather Nakakura, founder, teacher and director of WHEA who continues to inspire others.
