We are currently looking for an educator to join the high school teacher team for this upcoming school year, the start date would be approximately July 29, 2020.  This position joins 10 other teachers who together are responsible for all high school courses.  This team creates and implements a project-based curriculum that integrates language arts, science, social studies and electives. Some stand-alone course teaching is also needed.  Due to the small school nature, many additional responsibilities arise as the year progresses. This position requires flexibility, drive and excellent communication skills. Projects may be physically demanding and could include hiking, ocean swimming, and intense gardening therefore applicants must be active and appreciate the outdoors. Experience in the science field would be most relevant, especially concerning the scientific method, engineering principles and data analysis.  Applicants must be willing to spend the majority of their time outdoors in a hot humid environment working on year-long projects alongside students. Teachers need to allow students to lead while maintaining clear direction and focus on project goals within the framework of the team structure. A working knowledge of google docs and sheets is preferred, a willingness to learn is required. Experience teaching high school history courses would be a great benefit. A Hawaii State Teaching License is preferred, but can be acquired over the next two years.  A Bachelor's Degree is required. Interested applicants should send a resume (nakakura@whea.net) or contact (808) 327-4751 with any questions or inquiries.  Mahalo!
